Without the counterpoint of complexity, we could not recognize simplicity when we see it. Our eyes and senses thrive, and sometimes recoil, whenever we experience differences.
2. What analogy does Maeda use to demonstrate this relationship?
He demonstrates by using a child as an example, even if the child could eat ice cream for all 3 meals of the day he will eventually get bored of the ice cream and want something else

without rhythm there would just be a random beat, and without a beat, it would just be a senseless random piece of music. through that Meada implies that there is no rhythm with out a beat and vice versa. for example, walking, you cant walk if you dont take the steps, by putting 1 foot in front of the other.
4. HOMEWORK: Find visual examples - pieces of design work that demonstrate the
relationship between simplicity and complexity – post the results on your blog,
with contextual analysis and reflection
Two artist that i could think of were Sato Koichi and Paul Rand. there designs are simple yet complex if you think more into it.
This as designed by Sato Koichi, it looks like a simple placement of shapes but the complex bit if the shadings of the colours which are used to make the shapes/petals of the rose.
This is by Paul Rand, it is the apple logo, it has a rather simple shape/ design to it but the texture/ style of it is quite complex.
