Describe the relationship between teaching and learning according to Maeda?
Teachers have to act like they know what they are talking about while students have to understand and make sense of what is being taught.
Describe the importance of the use of metaphors in learning, why would you use
them, how, give an example?
It is so that it would be an easy way for someone to remember how to do something from a short, easy metaphor. An example is how to screw a bolt with a screwdriver, “ righty tighty, left loosy”
BRAIN - what does the acronym stand for – why is it important?
Basics are the beginning
Repeat yourself often
Avoid desperation
Inspire with examples
Never forget to repeat yourself

Describe a situation where you have been required to teach someone a skill.
How could you apply the BRAIN principle to it?
Teaching someone to play guitar:
- show them the basic chords
- show them again and let them try and repeat
- don't go into to much confusing detail on finger placement, what ever feels comfy
- show a few chords put together in order
- repeat/ practice playing each chord till you are confident then move onto the next and after try playing them all together

Great work - clearly answered and laid out.
ReplyDeleteIs that a Gretsch Country Gentleman? I think Neil Young plays one of those. That's the sort of guitar I want to own when I grow up and become a rock star!
P.S. don't forget to do a separate post here for COLLABORATION every week from now on. Cheers.
