Week 8 Collaboration - Variety & Ego

Group Exercise - DISCUSSION

Vanity & Ego
Discuss these questions in relation to a group creating a design in collaboration

01 – Are you capable of being vain about your art & design?
yes you are. when you are half way done with a design and change the whole idea/ concept because you just don't like what you have done with it
02 – Do you have a healthy ego?
yes i believe i do, i consider myself wit ha normal ego and don't go thinking my ideas/ design are better than anyone else's
03 – What defines an unhealthy ego?
a person who is stuck up and self centered and think their ideas or design are the best, a 1 man team player
04 – When others want to change your ideas, do you get offended?
no i don't get offended, i am open to feedback from others
05 – When you are asked for opinions on other’s work, do you compare it to your own?
if it is of a similar design aspect/ style yes i will a tad bit, but other than that no
06 - When you are asked for opinions on your work, do you compare it to others?
again if it is of something in the same area/ style as everyone else i will compare the ways we have depicted the design.
07 – If somebody plagiarized your work, would you be proud?
if it is a exact copy, no i wouldn't because that is just plagiarism, but if they have changed it quite a lot i wouldn't mind to much
08 – What is the difference between pride in your work, and vanity about your work?
difference is with pride you are happy and feeling self accomplishment of your work, while vanity is your ego and no matter what you still think yours is better than anyone else
09 – Do you expect others to listen when you speak?
yes i do, because it is just polite to and good manners
10 – When somebody else speaks are you thinking about what you are going to say
next?

i do half half, i try to keep my head open so i can listen to what the speaker has to say and at the same time keep a note on what i will be saying
11 – Do you form opinions about others quickly?
Depending on what the opinion is for, but for a design it will take a few minutes for me to absorb it in and think of a good opinion/ feed back
12 – What percentage of you judgements about others talents are right?

aah i am not sure, because i don't judge others to whether or not they are talented or not

Blog questions: idea revolution

1 . Do you have a strong belief in your personal ideas?
yes i do, but sometimes when i get feed back or brain storm in a group the original idea changes and becomes better with the input form others

2. How do you evaluate your personal ideas over a period of time?
by planning each process or stages of the design or art work till i think it has enough touching on it.

3. How flexible are you in changing your mind about the value of your ideas?
i am very open, and don't mind changes little things about my ideas, its just when  i am being hassled into changing a whole lot is when it is reaching the line.

4. How flexible are you in changing your mind about the value of others’ ideas?
again, i am open into taking and giving feedback/ opinions. i would give a person a response to their work and give feed back base on what i think might look nice or would looks good overall

5. Does hanging on to your old ideas block new ones?
yes, sometimes i may be all over 1 idea and get designers block on another piece of work  i have to do.

6. Are you slow or fast in moving on when an idea has burnt out?
i don't dwell on them to long, if it has been over ruled i will move on, but keep a mental or physical note on the idea incase i want to go back and do it again later.

Origination week 8

Reading quiz on chapter 7: emotions

1. When Maeda uses the “Feel, and feel for” principle, he is drawing on peoples connection to a very personal experience: feelings. List 3 ways that would make use of this principle to visitors of your exhibition.
  • putting some of the ways you make yourself feel at home or comfy into the exhibition
  • put some feelings that you have encountered personally into your designs, like love, sadness and randomness
  • give the exhibition a welcoming feeling for the visitors, with appropriate music, foods and smiles :)

2. What is animism? Why do you think the “Tamagocchi” craze of the ‘90s became such a craze? How can you apply this to your exhibition?

Animism is the philosophical, religious or spiritual term for spirit or souls exist not only in humans but in all living things, like animals, nature and some inanimate objects.
It became a craze because people/ consumers were fascinated by the fact that they could have a virtual pet and take care of it like a ordinary pet but without the messy clean up.
This can easily be applied by displaying some fantastic works, that will keep attracting visitors to some back again and again, also having some foods or drinks will get some visitors attention.

3. Name 2 products that you have purchased that gave you that feeling of “Aichaku”. What feelings did those products evoke? Was it the feeling that sold the product to you?

My custom built Antec desktop computer, it has a nice case with many fans to keep it well ventilated, nice blue LED lights to light the fans and it is over all powerful and efficient.
My iphone, it is small, portable and very handy as it is a phone and also a ipod.

4. How do the references to emotion relate to the simplicity/complexity relationship discussed in Law 5 - Differences

Well different emotions can clash between simple and complex. Some people might have different opinions about a topic or debate going on and ones personal feelings can come into it which will change/ show the difference in peoples opinions on things.

Week 7 Collaboration - Relingquishing Ownership

For the individual research entries, my topic was P2P network and software licenses

and this is what i found, reworded and typed myself

a EULA needs to be established for a successful agreement P2P network & software license

What is a EULA?
A EULA is a legal contract between you and the software publisher. It spells out the terms and conditions for using the software. For example, it might say you can only install the software on one computer for your personal use, a fairly common stipulation. However, it might also say that by using the software you agree to third-party monitoring or to allowing other users to access parts of your computer.

My own ethical approach

1. Is it illegal to copy a design?
yes it is, if you copy it without changing anything it is, but if you do copy someone's work, but modify it by at least 50% then it isn't illegal
2. Is it ethical to sell a non-original design as your own?
no, that is just not acceptable
3. What is the difference between ethics and law?
ethics is a persons own code of rules, while law is a set of perimeter which cannot be breached
4. Do you value others intellectual property the same as your own?
yes i do, other wise there would be a lot of legal issues

Make a list of 5 behaviour principles you consider essential for each of these:
1. At CDU in the MacLabs

  • no running
  • clean up after ones self
  • no open foods or drinks near the equipment
  • sensible behavior
  • politeness

2. Outside class in a social setting
  • be sensible
  • polite
  • positive
  • careful
  • assertive

3. In a professional workplace in which you may be employed after studies
  • quick
  • efficient
  • sensible
  • watchful
  • polite

The 6 thinking hats

• Which HAT best represents your group?
i would say the blue hat, the practical one
• Why?
because our group has covered everything that is related with out tasks and are waiting on the other groups to share their information
• Describe an Exhibition Group meeting where you may adopt the BLACK hat
The negative, black hat was worn at the logo/ name decision meeting for the exhibition

The navigation group in 6 hats

  • The white hat: we search for individual maps of each of the exhibition buildings, so we could possibly put a mini map on the handouts to guide guest to each section of each building
  • The red hat: my feelings were rather quite neutral, there wasn't anything to much to get me upset in our group, we worked together just fine
  • The black hat: there hasnt been anything to be negative about so far, everything is going smoothly
  • The yellow Hat: we got a hold of the maps for each building so we can make a mini map for the hand outs
  • The green hat: our latest idea was the handouts with the mini maps for each building
  • The blue hat:  we thought over heaps of possibilities to help navigate people to the exhibition spot in the most simplistic way possible, also coming up with new ideas on how to  guide/ inform the visitors with the hand out
